How does Patem Educators work?
One-on-one lessons with a hand-picked tutor
Lessons take place at your home or a suitable venue of your choice
Lessons are scheduled weekly on days and at times that suit your schedule
Who are our tutors?
We have a wide variety of tutors – mainly university students studying a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, some studying teaching
We also have a number of qualified and working professionals who are specialists in their fields but have a passion for tutoring, education and working with younger learners
All applicants undergo a rigorous screening process which includes a one-on-one interview should they meet all of our criteria, so that you get only the best!
What happens if my child doesn’t get on with the tutor?
Even though we have over 5 years of tutor-matching experience, we realise that there sometimes just isn’t that “chemistry” even if the match is perfect on paper
We are always willing to source a replacement tutor if there is a valid reason for the request
How do our packages work?
Our packages work on a “pay as you go” basis – purchase a package, use it up, and then purchase another
We do require a minimum of 1 session per school week, and recommend taking a larger package to cover the term in order to take advantage of our discounted rates
We also offer small group tutoring, ad hoc packages and can quote on monthly options
Additional travel charges may apply based on your area, request and our tutor availability, but we do always try our best to find the best possible tutor in your area who matches your specific needs
How many lessons per week are recommended?
In order to ensure the greatest chance of improved marks, attitude and academic progress, consistency is crucial. We recommend the following guidelines as a minimum:
Grade 1 – 7: 1 x 1 hour lesson per subject per week
Grade 8 – 10: 1 x 1.5 hour lesson per subject per week
Grade 11 – 12: 1 x 2 hour lesson per subject per week
If the current marks at Grade 8 – 10 level are below 50%, 1 x 2 hour lesson per subject per week is recommended. If the current marks at Grade 11 – 12 level are below 50%, 2 x 2 hour lessons per subject per week are recommended
If you are looking at a weekly lesson, our 10 x 1 | 10 x 1.5 | 10 x 2 hour packages would cover one lesson per subject per week for a full term.
How does payment work?
All packages are prepaid, payable 24 hours prior to your first lesson via EFT or direct deposit
We will only request payment and send an invoice once we have matched you with your Patem Educators tutor.
Is there any guarantee?
Our consultants are determined to make the best possible tutor-match, and won’t assign a tutor who we don’t feel is fully capable of meeting your child’s needs. Our tutors are thoroughly screened, have a strong natural affinity for teaching, and are passionate about helping others achieve to their full potential. However, if you’d prefer to try out a session with your tutor first, you are welcome to book and pay for one ad hoc lesson, and then book a larger package if you are happy with how the lesson went.
What can I expect at the first lesson?
Your tutor will start by conducting a Learner Needs Analysis to ascertain what your child struggles with most to determine what the focus points of the lessons need to be.
This analysis looks at multiple aspects including the academic needs of the learner, previous marks, study methods and learnings styles.
The analysis won’t take more than 10 – 15 minutes and thereafter, the tutor will commence with the material that has been prepared for the lesson or start with what your child requires.
It is recommended that the learner has the relevant textbook and working book present at each lesson, so that the tutor can identify and focus on the specific problem areas.
